Frequently Asked Questions

1

Is art therapy right for me?

Everyone can benefit from art therapy, as it is an approach in which the art therapist can truly adapt their interventions to the individual, whether in terms of preference/receptivity to mediums or general functioning. Regardless of age, each person has a creative potential that allows them to enter a state of “flow” and overcome their blockages. The art therapist can help you develop this potential and use it to feel better and consider new possibilities.

2

I'm not good at art. Can I still benefit from art therapy?

Absolutely! You don't need to have any talent or knowledge of art. Art mediums are used for the purpose of expressing yourself beyond words and NOT to create an artwork that is "beautiful". It's not the final art product that matters, but rather the process.

3

Will the art therapist analyze my creations?

No. I believe the therapeutic relationship is collaborative and that ultimately, you are the best person to know what makes sense to you. It's sometimes difficult to know what speaks to us, so my role is to support you and guide you as you observe the process and reflect.

4

What should I expect in an art therapy session?

The first sessions are designed to get to know each other, explore and assess your needs, and familiarize yourself with the environment, materials, and art therapy modality. It is during these initial sessions that we determine what you hope to gain from art therapy.

The following sessions aim to provide personalized support by proposing art therapy interventions adapted to the individual's needs.

4

How long does art therapy follow-up last?

The duration of therapy depends on several factors, including goals, available time, budget, etc. It therefore varies for each person and can last a few sessions or it can spread over several months.
